Carbon Filtration (Cannabis)
CARBON FILTRATION is only one of many technologies used for cannabis growing operation odor control, but it is the most trusted and proven technology. Activated Carbon filtration has been used successfully for many decades for molecular filtration in both the water-treatment and the air pollution control industries, and it has been proven very effective for odor control in cannabis growing operations.
Industry Air Sales (IAS) supplies both high-activity virgin cocoanut-shell Activated Carbon as well as Impregnated Carbon (IC) medias that are manufactured for odor control specifically in the Cannabis industry. We can provide these specialty gas-phase medias in many forms including refillable trays or canisters or as disposable filter cells, whichever technology best suits your particular requirements and facility. However, we strongly recommend refillable canister technology inside a modular side-access housing as it provides “the lowest pressure drop versus the highest carbon content per square-foot of face area”. In other words, the refillable canister filter system provides the biggest bang for the odor control buck!
As with any high-efficiency filter system, the media is only as good as the seal that is provided when installed, since air always follows the path of least resistance. There’s no point in installing any HEGA or HEPA filter at all if the contaminated air simply goes around the expensive filter media! Every carbon canister is provided with its own neoprene gasket to ensure leak-free operation when mounted in our factory assembled side-access canister filter housing. Every housing is designed for leak-free operation at +/-6”wc operation, assuring you that contaminant is forced to go through our filters, not around our filters! Having a gasket on each canister, each canister frame and on every access door, assures the lowest opportunity for contaminant bypass, thus the highest single-pass efficiency for the filter media. We also recommend storage of spare canisters and holding frames on site, thus permitting the lowest downtime for your HVAC filter system.
Flowering cannabis has a strong odor that is objectionable to most people, employees and neighbors alike! The very first item in the HVAC section of the Canadian Good Production Practices Guide (Section 5.1.5.1 System – Filtration And Ventilation) states clearly: “Filter the air to prevent the escape of cannabis odours associated with cannabis plant material to the outdoors”.
Be ahead of the curve by being a responsible and proactive growing operation, respectful of your industrial or residential neighbors. You owe it to your staff and neighbors to provide safe, proven odor control technology for your growing and processing operation – use Activated Carbon Filtration!
